Course Information

Overview

This course is for the beginner Coder who wants to make mobile app games for others to play on their phones. Using drag and drop coding, kids will have the chance to make a number of games. If they have a passion to mobile app games for devices and if they have never coded before then this is the course for them.

Levels

(Note: If you dont know what level to enrol your child start them in Level 1. We will assess them once they start and move them to the level that most suits their abilities)

Level 1
Covering the basic concepts of Mobile Games through fun and easy to learn tasks. This course will have them making their first game in no time. Starting with the basics of Game design and game styles, students will create their a platformer style game of their own creation.

Level 2
Following on from level 1, this course is designed for those kids who have done some coding before and have a sound understanding of coding basics. This course will help them develop a deeper understanding of Mobile Games. Building on their previous knowledge, we dive in to more complex game designs.

Level 3
The 3rd part of our Introduction to Mobile App Games course, this level is designed for kids who have completed the previous 2 levels of this course. Here they will have the opportunity to learn more detailed features of Game Design and apply what they have learnt through the creation of professional style game.

Level 4
Continuing on for the 3rd part of our Introduction to Mobile App Games course, this course is designed to continue on with the game that was started in the last course. Here they will have the opportunity to learn about AI mechanics and much more to take their game to the next level. A great way in which to wrap up and display what they have learnt throughout this course.

Audience

Suitable for ages 7+, and beginner coders.

Prerequisite

This course requires no previous knowledge of Coding.

What to bring

Lunch (if attending the full day course), Snacks (no nuts please), and a drink.

Equipment

We provide all the equipment needed for this course, yet if you have a Raspberry Pi of your own you can bring it along.

Outcomes

At the successful conclusion of this course they will have gained a deeper understanding of Mobile Games and how coding works. This will give them a solid foundation in which they can then continue to develop their coding skills with the move towards learning a more specific coding language, such as Python or more complex game designs, such as our Game Design course.

NB: Courses will run subject to a minimum number attending.
