Course Information

Overview

This course is designed for those who have a passion for creating complex games. This course moves away from building the basic types of games with predetermined setting and allows the creation of individualized computer games with more complex game play.
Game Design (Intermediate) is the second part of our Gaming courses. In this course you will have the opportunity to code your games in detail. Stepping away from the predetermined settings of the previous course, you will go through and create more complex scrolling shooter games, endless runner games and platform games, and introduce more complex enemies with simple AI.

Levels

(Note: If you dont know what level to enrol your child start them in Level 1. We will assess them once they start and move them to the level that most suits their abilities)

Level 1
This course is designed for kids who have completed the Introduction to Game Design course and are eager for making computer games of their own creation. This course focuses on introducing the coding language used in game design and will have them making their first games in no time.

Level 2
Building on concepts and knowledge gained in the “Game Design (Intermediate) Level 1” course, your child will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the coding language. In this course they will continue developing their understanding through the creation of platformer style games using more complex controls, gravity, player tracking, multiple rooms etc.

Level 3
The third part of the Game Design (Intermediate) courses, this course builds on the skills developed in the previous 2 parts. In this course they will take their coding skills to the next level with the introduction AI mechanics, complex game design, and much more in the aim of creating a game of their own creation.

Level 4
The final part of the Game Design (Intermediate) courses, here we test their knowledge that they have gained so far by having them build a game of their own creation. Using the coding skills they have developed in the previous courses, they will have the support and guidance to create a game of their own choosing and design.

Audience

Suitable for ages 10+ and kids that have completed the Introduction to Game Design courses or have experience writing with a coding language.

Prerequisite

This course requires the completion of the Introduction to Game Design courses or previous knowledge of Game Maker Studio.

What to bring

Lunch (if attending the full day course), Snacks (no nuts please), and a drink. We provide all the computers.

We provide all the computers and software.

Holiday Courses:

Term Courses:
6 Saturdays (1.5 hours per session)
Time: 11:30am – 1:00pm

Outcomes

By the successful completion of these courses you will be ready to design and build your own games from scratch to play at home or move on to the next level of Game Design and design your own app.

NB: Courses will run subject to a minimum number attending.
